Welcome to my DeviantArt profile! My name is Vincent, though I choose to credit myself with my artist alias -- Marek Sterling. I'm currently in the making of my continuous prose and comic series - "Protector of Chaos" - starring Alter the Wolf. I love futuristic themes and aspects, which you'll notice upon browsing through my profile and gallery. I hope that you will enjoy everything that I have to offer! My style of art is constantly "altering", but I always give my best in everything that I share here.

:star: For behind-the-scene and exclusive content of my "Protector of Chaos" series, watch my alternative account - MatrixFactory.

POCDX Cameos!

Journal Entry: Mon May 25, 2015, 11:18 AM
Hey, everyone!

It's almost time for some cameo appearances in my comic -- POCDX! I'm always looking for more fan characters to be included until I get to those pages, and really, it's almost time!! Currently, I have 2 cameo scenes that you can submit your characters into -- the Central City Swamped scene of the Prologue Issue (coming up within the next few pages!) and the Night Babylon Bar Scene of Issue 1 (a bit of a wait for this one until the Prologue is completed). Below is a detailed description of what each scene is like and what you can expect your characters will be doing during these scenes.

POC: Destiny-X - Prologue: Cover by MarekSterling

In this scene, Central City is completely swamped by a very powerful flood from a certain entity. Some characters will be seen trying to escape the mayhem, some will be using their unique abilities to destroy obstacles and help others out of sticky situations, some will even just be kicking back and watching everything unfold from the roofs of somewhat stable buildings, and whatever else comes to mind when I'm working. For this scene, you may submit 2 characters.

This scene won't take place until the issue after the Prologue Issue -- Issue 1, but I'll always be looking for characters until we get there. This scene first begins with POCDX's protagonist walking through the streets of Night Babylon on his way to the bar. Along the way, your characters will be seen on the streets walking to their destinations, interacting with other characters, etc etc. Inside the bar (which doesn't have alcohol to keep this comic kid friendly!), your characters will be seated with other characters drinking various beverages, talking, taking their orders with the intern waiter (a new character of mine you'll get to meet soon!), and so on. As the protagonist leaves the bar, more characters will be seen on the streets again. You may submit 2 characters into this scene.

:bulletgreen: Just comment on this journal (or note me) with several references of your characters. You WILL be credited on any and all POCDX pages your entered characters appear on.

:bulletgreen: Please don't submit overly-detailed characters and characters who don't even belong to you/weren't made by you. Adopted characters are fine. Example of overly-detailed characters: An 8-armed hedgehog equipped with the world's largest rocket launchers that are embedded with magical ornaments bestowed to him by dead evil pixies that are hung around his neck and who also gave him a body-suit armor wrapped with high-tech circuitry that makes him look like a Christmas tree and... you get the idea... But don't worry too much about this. I'll let you know beforehand if I have too much trouble drawing your OC, and you're more than welcome to enter another in their place.

:bulletgreen: Not sure if your character qualifies to be entered? Wonder no more! I'm looking for Sonic-based characters, which can include Mobians, Humans, Robots, Aliens, Mythical Creatures, etc. Everything is welcome so long as it's Sonic-related.

:bulletgreen: Be patient! I'm not the fastest artist in the world. It takes time for me to write a script, pencil a page, ink that page, color that page, and then letter that page with word balloons. I'm also going to be returning to college at the end of June, but POCDX is always my number 1 priority during my spare time. If you're ever curious, feel free to ask how the progress is going! I don't mind giving you updates on which page I'm working on, how close it is to completion and how close we are to seeing some long-awaited cameos!

(this list won't be updated; it's just to notify those who have already entered their characters)

Okay, random question.

If there was one thing you could change about the Sonic Series, what would it be?

Or, would you change a lot of things? :P
MarekSterling Featured By Owner May 6, 2015  Student General Artist
I honestly have no idea what I would do. XD (the last paragraph is a summary if you don't feel like reading all this lol) I mean, sure, there are tons of things I would change, but the Sonic fanbase is one of the most pickiest and overly-critical fanbases ever. They're just never 100% pleased or grateful with anything Sega comes up with. If there's a single flaw or glitch in the games, they'll complain and make fun of it for years. Just look at Sonic 06. It's almost been 10 years since it was released, and to this very day the fanbase continues to hold on to all of the game's flaws. Now we have Sonic Boom. Right from the beginning before the game was even released, there was immediate dislike for the new designs (Knuckles' especially). The fandom just keeps asking for Sonic Adventure 3 (though I've always considered Sonic Heroes to be SA3), and anything else just doesn't satisfy them. It's true that you can't please everyone, but the majority of the comments I see online are always so negative and discouraging. It's a miracle that Sonic Team is still making more games for the series. To me, that's the important thing. I would rather have Sonic games that aren't the best compared to not having any new Sonic games at all. I wouldn't be surprised to see that happen eventually when you take into consideration how much stress Sega has been going through financially and even eliminating a number of their job positions.

Anyways... XD If I could change something in the Sonic series, it would have to be the game mechanics. That's something that is always changing in each of their games. The Mario series sticks with one mechanic for each of their main series games and different mechanics for their spin-offs. The Sonic games have been jumping all over the place with their game mechanics. A lot of of people favor the mechanics from the Sonic Adventure games or the classic games. Sega tried to bring those back in Sonic Generations (though the modern stages still had the mechanics from recent main series games like Sonic Unleashed and Colors). I think if Sega stuck with the mechanics from SA1 and 2, no one would complain about the gameplay.

Another thing I would change would be the plot of the series. I like how there used to be a story that was told in each of the earlier games that would continue to the next game. But now there's very little reference to that plot because each game is kinda branching off in their own universe, even though they're all considered part of the main series canon. You can definitely connect the stories from SA1 to SA2, then SA2 to Heroes, then Heroes to the Shadow game. And if you notice, after Sonic 06, the old plot is basically almost non-existent as they start to focus on the plots of the more recent games, Sonic Unleashed and Sonic Colors, then you have Generations that blends in everything but doesn't really give us anything plot related that connects to the plots of the earlier games, only familiar stage locations. Sonic Lost World was enjoyable, but again, it basically had no relation or reference to any of the previous games. And then we have several spin-off plots like the Sonic Riders series and the storybook series. I really love these games because their stories are consistent in their own series. The main series isn't very consistent. It used to be until we started the modern era beginning with Unleashed. I think Sonic 06 was literally the last game that somewhat continued the plot of the earlier games (unless you also look at the Sonic Rush and Rivals games).

So to sum this up... there's nothing wrong with trying something new or introducing new characters, new locations, etc., but don't do it so much that you completely lose all connections to what made the Sonic series what it is (or what it was supposed to be lol). The modern games are really great, I loved playing them, but the mechanics are so loose and focused on speed now, it's hard to control and see what you're doing or where you're going. Sonic Heroes, Shadow, and Sonic 06 all had their own game mechanics, but they didn't drift too far from the game mechanics that made the SA games enjoyable. Sonic 06 is a very enjoyable game to me because of that. It's not perfect, and there are glitches here and there, but it's understandable because the game was rushed and released before it was even completed. I do think if Sega made a game with mechanics similar to SA and a consistent plot, the fanbase would be much more appreciative.

I agree, I agree, I agree. I mean, yeah, I'd pretty much as everything you've asked of.

I wish I could say everything I want to say right now, but I'm at a loss for words, you took them out of my mouth! XD

I even enjoyed Shadow the Hedgehog, got a 4,000 word review to finish up here. Maybe I'll post that in a journal entry. XD But Sonic Unleashed. . . . was a huge change. For everything after that, save riders and story books. After that, it's like all the depth left. And now we don't have much of anything left, though I am glad that we still get games. Fans complain far to much, and I think that's a factor. Everyone's different, and that's why I try to remember when I review fan fictions that everyone's going to enjoy different things. Just don't bash a game over taste.

Shadow though, you know, I wouldn't recommend it to someone new to the series, but a deep fan who liked SA2, and Shadow himself? Yeah.

The boosting gameplay I guess isn't bad, it was fun- at first, but I think I like spindashing more. Sometimes I wish they mimicked an action RPG, just a little bit more, though I like levels more than open ended worlds, definitely. :P

I looooved the Shadow game, so much in fact I used to use Action Replay cheat codes to make my game experience even better. XD But come on, who wouldn't want infinite Chaos Control, Chaos Blast and gun ammunition? I'd love to see your review of the game if you post it!

I agree too, the boosting can be tons of fun. I especially like to do it as Super Sonic in Generations, though it's a shame it exhausts your rings quickly and reverts you to normal form. As for the levels, I can go either way. I'm a big fan of action and adventure and I also love big levels to explore so long as they don't mostly consist of death traps and bottomless pits, but then there would be no challenge without those things...

Just so you know... my own FC got a redesign and now he looks like this. Just in case, you're planning to include him in one of your comic-pages randomly. ^^;…

Oh, thanks for the notification! I'll update the old design you gave me with this one. Some cameos should be coming really soon! ;)

He never looked like a recolor to me, to be perfectly honest!
